Qualification Structure Aligned to University Study

Understanding the 120-Credit Benchmark

In the UK higher education system, academic credits are used to indicate the volume of learning required to complete a qualification. As a general benchmark, a full academic year of undergraduate study typically represents 120 UK credits, which is equivalent to 60 ECTS credits within the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).

This benchmark helps learners and institutions understand how UK qualifications compare internationally in terms of academic workload and level.

Modular Stackable Qualifications

Click College’s higher education qualifications are designed as stackable awards, meaning each higher qualification incorporates the learning and credit value of the previous level.

The Higher International Certificate (EduQual Level 4) carries 120 UK credits (60 ECTS) and is academically benchmarked to the first year of a UK undergraduate degree. It provides a strong foundation in core subject knowledge and professional principles.

The Higher International Diploma (EduQual Level 5) extends study to 240 UK credits in total (120 ECTS) and incorporates the Higher International Certificate. It is academically benchmarked to the first and second years of a UK undergraduate degree and develops more advanced knowledge, understanding and applied skills appropriate to the learner’s chosen subject area, supporting analysis, evaluation and informed decision-making at an intermediate higher education level.

This qualification is comparable in level and credit-value to a Foundation Degree (UK) or an Associate Degree (US).

The International Graduate Diploma (Level 6) is 360 UK credits (180 ECTS) and incorporates both the Higher International Certificate and Higher International Diploma. It is academically comparable in level and credit value to a three-year UK bachelor’s degree and focuses on advanced analysis, critical evaluation and the application of knowledge and skills within complex and professional contexts.

Together, these qualifications form a clear, structured and cumulative progression route from Level 4 through to Level 6. Learners begin at Level 4 and graduate with a qualification and level of their choosing.

Stackable Higher Education Qualifications

Each qualification builds on the previous level, allowing learners to progress from Level 4 through to Level 6.

Professional Diplomas (40 Credits) and Progression Routes

In addition to its higher education qualifications, Click College offers a wide range of Professional Diplomas, each carrying 40 UK credits. These qualifications are designed to provide focused study in specific subject areas and are ideal for learners seeking continuing professional development (CPD), specialist skills, or a shorter introduction to higher-level study.

Most learners tend to complete a 40-credit Professional Diploma in around 2-6 months.

Professional Diplomas - HIC - HID - IGD

Professional Diplomas are delivered fully online, are open access, and are aligned to UK higher education credit frameworks. They can be studied as standalone qualifications or used as part of a wider progression journey.

How Professional Diplomas Feed Into Higher Qualifications

Professional Diplomas can be combined and carried forward into Click College’s Higher International qualifications, subject to programme structure and academic alignment. Professional Diplomas therefore provide a modular and low-commitment entry point into university-level study, while still supporting long-term academic and professional progression.

Recognition of prior learning and credit transfer is subject to individual programme requirements and academic approval.
